Lord of the Ring Characters: a Window into Tolkien’s Mind
The Lord of the Ring Characters offer viewers and fans a bay window into JRR Tolkien’s mysterious mind.
Tolkien, the master of the mystical and creativity in his development and construction of Middle Earth employed a series of characters in the Lord of the Rings that were sure to compel fans. And of this we are certain. Compel they did.
Lord of the Ring Characters are not only memorable but they each, in their own regard tell a dramatic story of life and death, of adventure and of sacrifice.
It is difficult to narrow a list of Lord of the Ring Characters down to the most essential. Of course everyone’s opinion differs as to who must be included or who should not be included on the game-time roster. To restrict the list of Lord of the Ring Characters is, in some large capacity a great injustice. This Lord of the Rings Character injustice is committed against both Tolkien’s dreams as well as the ideal that each individual Lord of the Rings Character stands for. So how do we narrow the list?
We narrow the Lord of the Rings Character list very carefully. We seek to define certain criteria that will surely set certain Lord of the Ring Characters apart from others, elevating them in some way to a slightly higher plane. So what criteria do we look into?
Lord of the Ring Characters can be analyzed from myriad angles, but should first be reviewed by their appearance in Tolkien’s text and in Jackson’s films. There is no better way to assess popularity then to look into visibility. By this we simply need to record the characters that strike the strongest cord with fans.
The roll-call of Lord of the Ring Characters that strike the strongest cord with Lord of the Rings fans could span a country mile, but can be restricted even further. Take a fan popularity list and check the names of the Lord of the Ring Characters that appear the most in the text and the film. By doing this we avoid second guessing the original creator of the Lord of the Rings and its’ rejuvenator, Peter Jackson.
Our new list would look something like this: Lord of the Ring Characters most essential to the successful spinning of Tolkien’s tale would be incomplete without mention of Aragorn, known for bravery, honor, and chivalry. Aragorn the future ruler of a re-united kingdom is core to the foundation of a Lord of the Rings Character list.
The second slot on the Lord of the Rings Character list is occupied by Frodo or the Ring Bearer who is, in his own right, parallel to Aragorn in his core necessity in the tale. But how can we proceed down our list without including mention of Gandalf the Grey, who is according to some, the most important of Tolkien’s characters. Lord of the Rings Character Gandalf the Grey carries the staff which lights the way or all future generations, how can we consciously exclude him from the top of our list.
But of course the second tier of our Lord of the Rings Character list can not be completed without mention of Gimli and Legolas; both of whom are necessary to Tolkien’s story.
The remainder of a Lord of the Rings Character list grows a bit clouded at this point. Where do we continue? How do we proceed without potentially offending any fans, or even the memory of Tolkien? The following Lord of the Ring Characters must be included as they too are core to the story, but vary in fan appreciation. Lord of the Rings Character Merry, Pippin, Boromir, and Samwise Gamgee.
